• If the printer or computer shows a message such as “Ink cartridges cannot be recognised”, remove the affected cartridges and reinstall them carefully.
• Check that each cartridge is inserted into the correct colour slot and clicks fully into place.
• Make sure all protective film, transport clips, and seals have been completely removed before installation.
• Avoid touching the chip directly. If needed, clean the contact area carefully with a dry lint-free cloth.
• If the error remains after reinstalling, restart the printer and test the cartridges again one by one.
• If the cartridges are recognised but print quality is poor, run a nozzle check, printhead cleaning, and if needed alignment from the printer maintenance menu.
• Epson support notes also mention that for certain consumer ink series, the message “Ink cartridge cannot be recognised” may appear when a cartridge has actually reached the end of its usable life, instead of an earlier low-ink warning.
• If recognition issues continue, printer-side firmware or model-specific recognition behaviour may also play a role. This is a known printer-side behaviour and is not automatically considered a cartridge defect.
